Probably the hardest part of a training program like the one I am currently in is how well it can interrupt other goals you have.  I have been terrible about reading blogs while I’m here, and about posting.  This is because in the more social environment that I am currently in, I find so many other calls on my time that don’t exist when it’s me and my husband at home surfing the web on our respective computers.  So it is that I find myself a bit out of touch and staring down a large pile of reading to get caught back up.

The hardest part of this arrangement is that I’m fully aware of how little I’m reading and writing, and it is frustrating for me.  I made major headway in my reading this weekend and am preparing to dive in for a bit more with the hope of catching up.  Of course, as soon as you catch up, you’re out of date with the frequency at which professionally kept blogs publish.  But I’ll be as up to date as I can be.  I hope to have a real post up tomorrow or Tuesday.  When it happens depends on what collateral duty I find myself with tomorrow.

Life Update

Sorry things have been so quiet of late.  It seems that I’m practically living at my station these days, and what little home time I’ve had is filled with errands, homework, and occasionally playing tour guide to my family.  I’ve been following economic and political news as much as ever, I’ve just been struggling to find a time to write.  I’m watching events in Europe in disbelief.  How can the continent’s leaders drag their feet as things continue to look more dangerous for them?  I think it’s possible to fix the Euro, but I can’t for the life of me figure out why the heads of state and ECB seem so determined to just muddle through.  I’m keeping informed on the GOP primary season, but frankly I find the field rather depressing.  If I have to root for one of them, I’ll root for Huntsman.  He’s at least sane.

I hope to have an update when I get my next days off mid-week.  For now, I’m going to keep reading The End of Wall Street for a few and then head off to bed.  5:30 a.m. comes far too early, especially this time of year, with dawn so late and dusk so early.

My regularly schedule entries during my off time won’t be happening this weekend due to Hurricane Irene.  My command allowed me to come home the same time as the rest of my section  yesterday due to the approaching hurricane, so that I could make sure everything at home was safe.

Well, we finally made it to another weekend.  Even though my last weekend off was only 2 weeks ago, it feels much longer.  That is mainly because days as the newest watch standing non-rate at my station are very long ones.  Long as in, your only time off is the six hours you get to sleep.  Give that as my typical workday, I’ve been very happy with the amount I’ve been able to write in the past couple weeks.  Heaven knows there was plenty to write about.

3 days off in a row.  This is literally the first time I’ve had more than a day off since I arrived at Station Castle Hill back on May 26th.  I can thank myself for that.  I’ve passed my watch standing qualification process, which means I’ve earned the right to have the same schedule as the rest of my section.  Finally.
